Mustang Region
The forbidden kingdom of the Himalayas.
About the Mustang Region
The arid high plateau of Upper Mustang sits in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, creating a Mars-like lunar landscape utterly unlike anywhere else in Nepal. Once a forbidden kingdom closed to outsiders, Upper Mustang is still a restricted trekking area with a preserved ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture, hidden cave monasteries, and the walled capital Lo Manthang.
